A tag cloud with terms related to Web 2.Image via Wikipedia
I have 3 drafts sitting in my blogger posts window, which I do not intend to publish anytime soon. This is mainly because of my own laziness/business and the cruel play of circumstances which make it that something crops up every time I settle down to work on one of those posts.

The 'millionth' English word has been declared by the global language monitor, run by a US web monitoring firm. This monitor searches the web for newly coined terms, and once a word or phrase has been used more than 25000 times, it recognizes it as a new word. Strictly speaking, if every common term is recognized, there is definitely more than a million words in English currently.

However, this lax claim by the company spazzes up things very nicely, being perfectly reflective of our hi-tech and retarded selves. Hear this: The millionth word is WEB 2.0, a term for the latest generation of web products and services. Web 2.0's competitors for the lucrative position one million, include the terms Jai Ho, Slumdog, and N00b. Oh good God, how much more retarded can we get! haha

Although, I must admit, Jai Ho would have been really cool. Imagine the millionth English word being a Hindi phrase. Jai ho!

Anyway, I am going to post a few photos from an album that completely tore me apart. These pictures are from refugee camps in Pakistan, containing people internally displaced by the present conflict. UN humanitarian chief John Holmes has issued a desperate appeal for hundreds of millions of dollars to help those who have fled the war, warning that the U.N. can only sustain its current aid efforts for one month.

Queuing up for hours on end for food.

Chasing after a truck spraying insecticide

Using a sheet as a sail during a storm.

In a playground at a refugee camp.

Children are amazing. They seem to have this astonishing ability of seeing the good in almost every person and situation, regardless of how terrible and hopeless they are. No wonder it's like happiness seeks them while others seek happiness. Or perhaps, THIS is what they meant by pursuit of happYness. The rest of us are just deluded as hell.

See the rest of the album here!
