Chew On This

OK so I got this from the BBC article detailing the latest spotting of some debris on the ocean by an aircraft searching for the missing Air France jet, which went missing with 228 people on board.

"At approximately 0530 Brazilian time [0830 GMT], a C-130 military aircraft spotted some debris in two locations approximately 60km apart from each other," he said.

"In this area, they saw an orange buoy, an airplane seat, small white pieces, an airplane turbine as well as oil and kerosene.

"The search is continuing because it's very little material in relation to the size [of the Airbus A330]."

It's a very tragic accident and amidst all the somberness and grief, this is what the French Defense Minister, Herve Morin, had to say:

"(There is still) no evidence whatsoever (as to the cause of the plane's loss). We cannot, by definition, exclude a terrorist attack, because terrorism is the main threat for all Western democracies"

Maybe it's just the way I look at it, but that's the most insensitive and pompous statement I have heard in quite a while, considering the recent happenings in all parts of the world. I feel very offended right now.

Terrorism is a main threat for many countries, especially in the east. Insinuating otherwise by making such a statement is extremely insensitive, especially when you consider conflicts like the Sri Lankan Civil War and the fight against the Talebans in Pakistan.

Besides, it's not about what is the threat or what is not, or what is prevalent or unusual. It's about why there is this threat. They should seriously get off this "everyone is trying to attack us because we are just too good" mode and understand why anyone would want to do that.

I am sorry if the rant above appears too emotional and not well-thought out but I couldn't help it..
